Validity of DigiCert certificates will be limited to one year

DigiCert SSL

From 1 September 2020, all CAs must stop issuing two-year SSL / TLS certificates. The maximum validity period for SSL certificates is now 1 year (398 days to be precise).

The DigiCert certification authority (as well as its brands RapidSSL, Thawte, GeoTrust) supported the new requirements, limiting the maximum validity period of SSL certificates to 397 days (to take into account the difference in time zones). This change applies to all publicly trusted TLS / SSL certificates.

  • Organisations that have already been validated can purchase DigiCert two-year SSL certificates until 27 August, 23:59 UTC.
  • If an organisation requires validation, then DigiCert two-year SSL certificates can be purchased until 12 August, 23:59 UTC.

Restrictions have been established for the issuance of OV / EV certificates for the RapidSSL, Thawte, GeoTrust brands:

  • If the company has already passed OV / EV validation then, in this case, it will be possible to purchase two-year certificates until 27 August 2020.
  • If OV / EV validation has not been passed, then two-year certificates can be purchased until 12 August 2020.

If you already have DigiCert certificates, then they will work throughout their validity period. You will not need to reissue them due to this change.
